Olympic 100 metres champion Julien Alfred is back in her native St. Lucia, 53 days after creating history in the French capital and setting off wild celebrations in the island of 1-hundred and 80 thousand people.

Alfred clocked 10.72 seconds to win her country’s first ever Olympic medal and returned a few days later to secure silver in the 200-metres final.

The former St. Catherine High School star landed in the country late Tuesday evening to a massive welcome home party led by Prime Minister Phillip Pierre.

Pierre says Alfred is an inspiration to not only her countrymen and women, but to a global audience that watched her history making achievements in Paris.

Alfred, who earlier this year won the World Indoor 60-metres title, her country’s first ever global athletics medal, says her journey to the pinnacle of global athletics, was helped by many.

The week of celebration will culminate in a grand event at the Darren Sammy Stadium on Friday September 27, which is designated Julien Alfred day.

The country will learn at that event the special gift the government of St. Lucia will present to the newly minted Diamond League champion.
