LONDON (CMC):
THE WEST Indies trio of all-rounder Jason Holder and pacers Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales failed to make a significant impact for their sides in the English County Championship yesterday.
Holder, batting at seven, spent almost two hours at the crease and made 29 before Worcestershire were dismissed for 360 in their first innings before lunch on the second day of their first-round match against Warwickshire in Division 1 at Edgbaston.
The 32-year-old Barbadian anchored the bottom half of the batting with resolute batting after the visitors continued from their overnight total of 316 for seven before he was the last man out, caught low down at deep backward square leg, slicing a delivery from pacer Michael Booth.
Holder then failed to take a wicket in 15 overs that cost 63 with his pace bowling, and Warwicks replied strongly to reach 292 for five at the close, with three batsman scoring half-centuries and former Barbados Under-15 vice-captain Jacob Bethell chiming in with 12.
Surrey were 11 without loss when stumps were drawn at Old Trafford after Roach and their spin bowling duo of Cameron Steel and Dan Lawrence made up for losing the first day because of adverse weather, and bowled out Lancashire for 202 in their first innings total in their Division 1 contest.
Roach ended with figures of 11-5-16-0, but leg-spinner Steel bagged five for 25 from 9.4 overs, and Lawrence took four for 91 from 28 overs with his uncomplicated off-spin to lead the demolition of the Lancashire batting after they were put in to bat.
Seales finished another day truncated by adverse weather with three for 64 from 20 overs, and Northamptonshire reached 292 for seven against Sussex at the close in their Division 2 match at Hove.
The Trinidadian pacer struck when he got George Bartlett caught at third slip for 27, but solid batting down the order, led by their captain Luke Procter with 92 and former India batsman Karun Nair with 57, kept the hosts in the field for the weather-curtailed day after Northants started the day on 95 for two.
