Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Desmond McKenzie, has strongly condemned the chaos at Friday’s annual general meeting of the Association of Local Government Authorities of Jamaica, that resulted in injuries being inflicted on the association’s president, Councillor Winston Maragh.
Minister McKenzie has also condemned the premature termination of the meeting.
The minister has described the event as total disgrace in the life of local government.
In calling out the behaviour of councillors, who deliberately disrupted the meeting at the point where the elections for the executive of association did not take place, the minister said the disgraceful series of events was played out in front of a range of invited guests including members of the media.
Accordingly, the minister says he’ll meet with the ALGAJ shortly.
