The fundraising effort to assist ailing dancehall veteran Cleveland ‘Lieutenant Stitchie’ Laing received an additional boost today with a donation of $150,000.

“It’s tougher than steel right now,” declared his wife Sophia at the ceremony on Thursday afternoon.

The funds were handed over by the organisers of the Sterling Gospel Music Awards. “It is indeed hard. Hard is not even the adjective right now… This is really hard for us right now,” she said.

“He is more alert than he has ever been. We give God thanks for that. No words, nothing verbal, but he’s moving his lips as if he wants to respond. It’s no words, but we give God thanks,” she added, while expressing gratitude to those who have donated.

It was indicated that Stitchie is expected to start rehabilitation at the facility where he is being treated.
