On a vibrant day filled with creative energy, dancehall star Ding Dong was met with an unexpected token of honour during an advertising photo shoot for Magnum Tonic Wine.
In a heart-warming moment that blended surprise and gratitude, Ding Dong was presented with a commemorative plaque, marking his significant contributions to the dancehall scene and his enduring partnership with the brand that has become synonymous with the culture.
"To be honoured by such a huge brand of our culture is a great feeling. I've supported Magnum for years, and they've supported me for just as long, so it is just right. Big respect to Magnum for acknowledging me, and this plaque is going straight on the wall at home for my kids and grandkids to see," said Ding Dong.
Reflecting on his two-decade-long journey in the industry, Ding Dong said he saw it more as "constant evolution".
"What keeps me fresh and relevant in every era is not looking back, but focusing on the now. People don't necessarily care about what you did, as much as how people look at how relevant you are at this very moment," he said. "Every year I try to reinvent myself - image-wise, sound-wise, dance-wise and music-wise. I have so much more to achieve, and so much more I want to do with Magnum."
He added, "I envision creating my own signature drink under the Magnum brand, something fresh and exciting. I'm excited about the future and what the next 25 years will look like for us - and as a dancehall community."
Brandon Wallace, brand manager of Magnum Tonic Wine, said the synergy between Ding Dong and the brand has only grown stronger over time.
"His creativity, energy and undeniable influence in both music and dance have made him a cultural icon. This plaque is just a token of our appreciation for his contributions. We look forward to continuing this exciting partnership and building even more together in the years to come," he said.
As Magnum Tonic Wine celebrates its 25th anniversary, Ding Dong's recognition is one of many highlights in their year-long celebrations. Dubbed the Magnum 25 Awards, the brand is committed to honouring those who have shaped its narrative and, more importantly, are seen as champions of the dancehall culture. Ding Dong is also gearing up for a major career milestone with the release of his first full-length project, accompanied by plans for a world tour.
"I did a couple tours before, but this is my first project - everything is ready, we're just waiting on the perfect timing," he said. "Right now, the place is too busy heading into Christmas, so the team is aiming for the first quarter of next year."
