There was uproar in the monthly Manchester Municipal Corporation meeting on Thursday as the debate continued over a proposed new park for the town of Mandeville.
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness recently announced that the National Housing Trust would be building a new park in the town. But, mayor of Mandeville, Donovan Mitchell, said focus should instead be placed on renovating the Mandeville Market.
Minority leader and Jamaica Labour Party councillor for the Craighead division, Omar Miller, took issue with the mayor’s comments. He questioned why previous People’s National Party, PNP, administrations did not complete the development of the market.
In response, Mayor Mitchell says the plans to renovate the Mandeville Market were shelved after the PNP lost the 2016 general elections.
