The mayor of Spanish Town, Norman Scott, appears to be suggesting that he is the victim of political mischief.
Earlier on Thursday, agents from the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency, MOCA, along with members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Jamaica Defence Force and the Financial Crimes Division, swooped down on the St Catherine Municipal Corporation to execute search warrants.
MOCA says the move was in response to allegations of serious organised crime.
In addition to the action at the corporation’s headquarters, Nationwide News understands MOCA also raided the home of at least three members of the corporation’s accounting team.
The MOCA raids were conducted at 17 locations across Kingston, St Catherine and Westmoreland.
Our news centre asked Mayor Scott directly, if MOCA had visited his home as part of its raids. He denied this.
He then appeared to suggest events in recent days may be part of a conspiracy to damage his prospects ahead of the next general election.
Scott is the People’s National Party, PNP, caretaker for South East St. Elizabeth.

The fire, in Exton, was reportedly set by PNP supporters in protest over Scott’s installation as constituency caretaker. But in a statement on Monday, Scott said no member of the party was involved in the protest.
