Manchester United legend Denis Law has died. He was 84-years-old.

The club made the revelation on behalf of the Law family in a statement moments ago.

“It is with a heavy heart that we tell you our father Denis Law has sadly passed away. He fought a tough battle but finally he is now at peace.

“We would like to thank everyone who contributed to his wellbeing and care in the past and much more recently.

“We know how much people supported and loved him and that love was always appreciated and made the difference. Thank you.”

In 2021, the goalscorer revealed he was suffering from Alzheimer’s in an emotional statement.

The Scotsman played 404 games for Manchester United from 1962 to 1973. Law scored 237 goals during his time at Old Trafford and struck up a fearsome partnership with fellow forwards, United legends Bobby Charlton and George Best.

Law won two titles with United and the FA Cup and helped them to the 1968 European Cup Final where they beat Benfica although he missed out on the game due to injury.

The European Cup win made Manchester United the first English team to lift the prestigious trophy.

Law was born on February 24, 1940. He started his football career at Second Division Huddersfield Town in 1956. After four years at Huddersfield, he was signed by Manchester City for an estimated transfer fee of £55,000, which set a new British record.

Law had two stints with City, famously scoring against United in 1974, the last time United were relegated from the top flight. Law also played for Torino in Italy before heading to Manchester United.

In a statement, Manchester United called Law “the ultimate goal-scorer”. The club said, “His flair, spirit and love for the game made him the hero of a generation.”

Law, along with the other members of the golden trio – Charlton and Best – along with Cristiano Ronaldo are the only United players to ever win the Ballon d’Or.

Law also scored 30 goals in 55 games for Scotland.
