Jamaica’s Jaheel Hyde, Roshawn Clarke and Malik James-King all advanced to the semi-finals of the men’s 400-metres hurdles at the Paris Olympics, on Monday.
Commonwealth Games silver medallist Hyde booked his place after finishing second in heat-1 in 49.08 seconds.
2022 World under-20 champion, Clarke won heat-4 in 48.17 seconds, while national champion James-King won heat-5 in 48.21 seconds.
Meanwhile, Stacey Ann Williams ran a season’s best 50.16 second to advance to the semi-finals of the women’s 400-metres. National champion Nickisha Pryce won heat-2 in 50.02 seconds and Junelle Bromfield was third in heat-6 in 51.36 seconds.
And Travis Smikle, Roje Stona and Ralford Mullings all advanced to the final of the men’s discus. Smikle’s best throw was 65.91 metres, Stona’s 65.31 metres and Mullings’ best throw was 65.18 metres.
Meanwhile, president of the Jamaica Olympic Association, Christopher Samuda, says despite the disappointment in the 100 and 800 metres, Jamaica’s campaign in Paris continues with admirable courage and commitment being expressed by our athletes.
