President of the Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises, MSME Alliance, Antoinette Hamilton, says the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump have played a role in the decline of business confidence in the Jamaican economy.
She was reacting to the latest results of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, JCC’s, Business and Consumer Confidence survey on Thursday.
The JCC’s Business and Consumer Confidence survey was conducted by Market Research Services Limited, led by CEO and pollster Don Anderson.
It revealed that in the first quarter of 2025, Business Confidence in the Jamaican economy fell to 132.5.
That’s a decline of 11.3 points compared to the previous quarter.
On the flip side, Consumer Confidence rose to an all-time high of 183.7.
That’s an increase of five points from the previous quarter.
Ms. Hamilton believes other factors such as interest rates and slow capital expenditure are likely to be blamed for the drop in business confidence.

Meanwhile, the CEO of Market Research Services Limited, Don Anderson, says the recent dip in Business Confidence should not be an immediate cause for concern.
Mr Anderson says consumers have also found creative ways to supplement income.
