Following the end of the 2023-24 National Tackle Football Association’s Secondary Schools Gridiron League (SSGL), Munro College’s Racheed McDonald headlines the lists of the season’s best players.
The First Team and Second Team All-Jamaica rosters have been announced to highlight several of the season’s top talents and rising stars throughout the competition.
“The First Team All-Jamaica roster reads like a who’s who of emerging gridiron superstars, with each player having demonstrated exceptional skill, dedication, and game-changing abilities throughout the season,” the SSGL announced.
“The Second Team All-Jamaica selection features a cadre of rising stars who have shown tremendous potential. These athletes are on the cusp of greatness, poised to dominate the upcoming recruitment cycle.”
McDonald stands above the rest as he was awarded the SSGL Most Valuable Player (MVP) awarded thanks to his efforts on the field.
A key player in Munro’s championship-winning squad, McDonald was critical in both defence and offence, leading the league in rushing yards, scoring a total of 22 touchdowns and 14 extra points on offence. On defence, he racked up 14 sacks and 48 tackles as a linebacker.
“The crown jewel of this year’s selections is the SSGL League Most Valuable Player, Racheed McDonald of Munro College. This lower sixth dynamo has redefined the concept of a two-way player, terrorising opponents on both offence and defence,” the SSGL said.
McDonald is joined by several of his teammates in the First Team All-Jamaica roster as Munro dominated the list with eight athletes selected.
These include Kimmoy Fowler, Naseef Azan, Navahdo Samuels, Claymore Smith, Jemari Regent, Jathneil Grizzle, Damauhi Dunbar, Daniel Lindo
