One independent candidate has been duly nominated to challenge the Jamaica Labour Party’s, JLP, Matthew Samuda, for the vacant North East St Ann seat in the September 30 by-election.
David Fritz Anderson, also known as ‘Five Pound’, was nominated shortly before noon on Wednesday.
He entered the nomination centre at the electoral office in St. Ann’s Bay, flanked by 10 people, to complete the process.
Speaking with our news centre before his nomination, Anderson described himself as a son of the soil. He says he was not parachuted into the division.
Anderson declined to make any predictions regarding the number of votes he’ll receive. But he says his work in football and other community activities makes him a strong candidate.

Meanwhile, Chase Neil of the United Independents Congress of Jamaica, UIC, is at the nomination centre waiting to complete the process.
Neil currently lacks the support of the 10 registered voters from the constituency needed to complete the nomination process.
The PNP say they will not field a candidate in the election.
