Olympic Champion Hansle Parchment to Receive National Award

Olympic 110-metre hurdles champion Hansle Parchment has been vested in the Order of Distinction, in the rank of Commander for exceptional achievements in the sport of athletics at the world and Olympic levels.

Parchment, who is currently representing Jamaica at the 33rd Olympiad in Paris, won silver at the 2023 World Championships.

He is among a 150 Jamaicans selected to receive national honours and awards by the Government of Jamaica this year.

Parchment’s coach, Fitz-Albert Coleman, has also been appointed a member of the Order of Distinction. His award is in the Officer class.

Other awardees in the sporting arena are Ambassador Arthur Stephenson, Wendell Downswell, Paul Francis and Dr Paul Wright.

Ambassador Stephenson, a former president of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association, has been awarded the Order of Distinction (Commander Class) for his contribution to the development of football and the public service.

Downswell, technical director of Jamaica’s youth and senior football teams, is awarded in the officer class for contribution to the development of national football.

Francis, one of the coaches at MVP Track Club, is named for his role in the development of track and field.

Meanwhile, Dr Wright’s award is based on his contrition to the development of sports medicine.

The awards will be formally presented in a ceremony at King’s House on National Heroes’ Day.
