Opposition Spokesman on Sports, Wavell Hinds, is calling for clarity and transparency regarding the certification status of the resurfaced track at the National Stadium.
Hinds says with the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Championships and the Grand Slam Track Series fast approaching, concerns have been raised about whether the track will regain its previous World Athletics Class 1 certification or receive a downgraded Class 2 status.

Of note, a Class 2-certified track can still host high-level competitions.
However, it does not meet the rigid criteria required for World Championships or Olympic qualification events.
The ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Championships and the Grand Slam Track Series in April were part of the reason for the resurfacing of the stadium track.
