Palace Amusement cinemas in Kingston, Portmore, and Montego Bay will be closed today due to adverse weather conditions.
The closure decision comes as Jamaica remains under a flash flood warning for southern parishes and a flash flood watch for the rest of the island until 5 p.m. today, as announced by the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM).
While the tropical storm warning for Jamaica was discontinued at noon, ODPEM’s Acting Director General Richard Thompson has warned that the severe weather system associated with Tropical Storm Rafael continues to bring heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds, especially across southern parishes.
“We are expecting that we should have rainfall into the latter part of the evening, and probably also have some thunderstorms. So we're saying to persons that thunderstorms are accompanied by lightning, and we don't want persons to be struck by lightning,” Thompson said, urging residents to stay indoors as much as possible.
