Deputy director general of the Planning Institute of Jamaica, PIOJ, Claire Bernard, says a wage disparity continues to impede the progress of women in the labour force.
Miss Bernard was speaking at a public forum held by Scotiabank on Tuesday on the state of the Jamaican woman.
The forum was used to mark three years of the Scotiabank Women Initiative, which assists women-owned, women-led businesses in various sectors.
So far, the initiative has injected over $3 billion via a Special Loan Fund.
Miss Bernard says much more work is needed to provide adequate financial assistance to female entrepreneurs.
