PM Congratulates Stona on Historic Gold Medal at Paris Olympics

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has congratulated Roje Stona on his golden feat in the men’s Discus Throw in Paris.

Stona is the first Jamaican to win a gold medal in a field event at the Olympics.

Prime Minister Holness says Stona’s Olympic record achievement has brought tremendous joy to Jamaica.

Stona, the former St. Jago High School standout, set a new Olympic Record of 70 metres beating the previous mark of 69.97m set in 2004 by Lithuania’s Virgilijus Alekna.

Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley, has also commended Stona on winning gold.

In a social media post, Prime Minister Mottley said massive congratulations are in order for Roje.

Prime Minister Mottley ended her post with emojis of the Jamaican flag.
