People’s National Party, PNP aspirant for South East St Elizabeth, Norman Scott, says the next PNP administration will ensure that the JISCO Alpart refinery is reopened.
The facility has been shuttered for the past six years.
Scott is the sitting mayor of Spanish Town. He toured sections of the constituency with Mikael Phillips on Wednesday.
At a post-Cabinet press briefing in April last year, agriculture and mining minister, Floyd Green, said the government was in talks with JISCO Alpart towards having the plant re-opened.
He said JISCO committed to submitting its plans for reopening by the end of 2024.
Minister Green said the parties also discussed issues regarding land reclamation and land titling, which he described as priorities of the Jamaica Labour Party administration.
