PNP Calling for Gov’t Intervention in Royalton Unrest

4 weeks ago 13

Opposition Spokesperson on Labour, Wavell Hinds, is calling on Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett to intervene in the alleged poor treatment of workers at Royalton Negril in Hanover.

Hundreds of the hotel’s workers protested at the staff entrance to the property on Monday, expressing discontent over what they say is poor treatment of staff, inadequate pay and being overworked.

Normalcy was restored to the hotel on Tuesday following a meeting between the hotel management and staff.

But Mr. Hinds says the concerns are troubling.

Minister Bartlett and Labour Minister, Pearnel Charles Junior, are to meet with the management and staff of the Royalton Negril Hotel on Wednesday.

Mr. Hinds is urging them to act decisively, ensuring that workers receive the respect, rights, and compensation they so rightly deserve.

He says the current situation highlights the urgent need for stronger representation and unionisation within the hospitality industry.
