PNP Demands Answers for ‘Critical Lack of Information’ about Tsunami Warning

The opposition People’s National Party is demanding answers regarding what it believes was a critical lack of information about the tsunami warning.

According to the Opposition Spokesman on Local Government, Natalie Neita Garvey, the public was only advised after the warning was lifted.

On Saturday, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, ODPEM, posted the warning on social media with the time stamp: Saturday February 8, 2024 at 10:00 pm.

The release further stated, that although Jamaica was issued an advisory for a possible Tsunami, at no point was a warning issued for Jamaica.

ODPEM said the main areas of concern were Honduras and the Cayman Islands.
