PNP Pulls Lawrence Rowe as Caretaker for Central Kingston

The Opposition People’s National Party, PNP, has removed Lawrence Rowe as its caretaker in Central Kingston.

In a statement on Saturday, PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell noted that the party’s leadership had been meeting with Rowe and the constituency’s executive during what he described as a period of transition.

The general secretary has emphasised that the constituency’s interests are paramount. The PNP has wished Rowe well in his future endeavours.

Our sources say the PNP’s internal polling showed that Rowe was trailing the party in public perception in the crucial seat. This after he initially managed to win a majority of delegate support in the seat.

When our news centre contacted Rowe days ago, he was adamant that he remained the man that would represent the PNP at the next general election.

The PNP has now indicated it will go in a different direction. A replacement caretaker has yet to be announced.

Central Kingston will be closely watched on election night. The usually safe PNP seat was won by the governing Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, in the September 2020 polls. The JLP’s Donovan Williams defeated the PNP’s Imani Duncan Price in that contest.
