PNP Rejects ‘Disingenuous’ Claim By JLP on Portmore Parish Push

2 months ago 25

Member of parliament, MP, for South St. Catherine, Fitz Jackson, is rejecting what he says is a disingenuous claim that the People’s National Party, PNP, is resisting Portmore’s designation as a parish for political reasons.

The claim was made by MP for South Central St. Catherine, Dr. Andrew Wheatley.

Jackson says there is irrefutable evidence that the Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, has admitted to pursuing this move with the intention to secure political dominance.

He made reference to a JLP meeting in November 2023.

Jackson says during the meeting, Everald Warmington openly stated that the JLP’s objective in restructuring Portmore’s boundaries was to prevent the PNP from controlling the municipal corporation.

Jackson says Warmington’s comments leave no doubt as to the JLP’s real motive behind the pursuit to make Portmore into the country’s 15th parish.
