General Secretary of the People’s National Party, PNP, Dr Dayton Campbell, says the party is confident that the magisterial recount in the Ginger Ridge Division, was done according to the law.
He made the comment following Thursday’s declaration by MP for West Central St Catherine, Dr Christopher Tufton, that the JLP will be filing an election petition for the seat.
Ginger Ridge falls within Dr Tufton’s constituency.
Shaloy Smikle has that story.
Dr Tufton has questioned the integrity of the recount process after the PNP’s Ralston Wilson retained the seat in the magisterial recount.
Wilson won by a margin of seven votes against the JLP’s Jeremiah Edwards.
According to Dr Tufton, there’s tangible evidence of ballot tampering with votes counted in Ginger Ridge Division from last Monday’s Local Government Elections.
He told Nationwide that the loopholes in the magisterial recount process warrant the consideration of a by-election.
But Dr Campbell says the West Central St Catherine MP must provide evidence when making such allegations.
Dr Campbell says the recount process for the Ginger Ridge division was done according to the law.
The PNP has also lost several divisions it had previously challenged in court following last Monday’s Local Elections.
Dr Campbell says despite the losses, the party remains confident in the election process.
