Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Julian Robinson, is calling on Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke to release the names of the entities from which Tax Administration Jamaica, TAJ, has leased properties.
His call comes in response to news that nearly $400 million have been spent by the TAJ on properties it has yet to occupy.
The concerns over the significant expenditure on real estate were highlighted in a recent report tabled by the Auditor General’s Department.
It was also noted that an MP for the area was also a director of the company from which TAJ leased one of the properties.
However, the auditor general says no evidence of impropriety or interference in procurement on the part of said MP could be identified.
But Mr. Robinson says Jamaicans have a right to know where tax-paying dollars are being spent.
