People’s National Party, PNP, spokesperson on foreign and regional affairs, Dr. Angela Brown Burke, is calling on the government to spotlight climate change at the ongoing CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting in Barbados.

The three-day 48th Heads of CARICOM Meeting will come to an end today, Friday, February 21.

Dr. Brown Burke says with the very recent appointment of CARICOM’s climate envoy, it is incumbent on the Jamaican government to support the drive by the region to actualize a key gain from COP29.

That gain is the agreement to set a New Collective Quantified Goal on climate finance.

The goal is to mobilise at least $300 billion annually by 2035 to assist developing nations mitigate and adapt to climate change. This new target replaces the previous $100 billion annual goal.

Dr. Brown Burke also wants the Holness administration to support the recent call for leveraging the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index.
