The Opposition People’s National Party, PNP, is calling for disciplinary action to be taken against State Minister of Foreign Affairs over what they say is a breach of ministerial protocol.
The call is in relation to photos posted to Minister Alando Terrelonge’s social media accounts which used emojis to block out the faces in photographs of former Prime Ministers P.J. Patterson and Portia Simpson Miller.
Minister Terrelonge has since blamed the faux pas on a member of his social media team. He says the edits were made without his knowledge or approval.
But according to the Opposition PNP, the edited pictures represent a low and desperate attempt by Terrelonge and his team to engage in tribal politics.
The Opposition says the behaviour creates disunity and prejudices the goal of bringing the diaspora together in a nation building.
The PNP says Minister Terrelonge’s seeming inability to adhere to the rule that Ministers of government represent the entire nation, regardless of political party, has made him unfit for the office he holds.
It says the actions of the State Minister must be punished by Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
The PNP says Terrelonge must issue a public apology, in addition to the disciplinary actions that it says are warranted.
