The Reggae Boyz hopes of another famous comeback at the quarterfinal stage of the Concacaf Nations League went up in smoke, courtesy of a Cristian Pulisic brace inside the CityPark Stadium in St Louis, Missouri this evening.
Going into the second leg of the tie on the back of a 0-1 deficit, suffered at the National Stadium last Thursday, it was the Americans who struck early.
Pulisic opened the scoring in the 14th minute before doubling the hosts’ advantage in the 33rd minute, effectively ending the tie as a contest.
But the Americans weren’t done yet, Jamaica’s tormentor in the first leg, Ricardo Pepi, scoring in the 42nd minute to go into halftime with a 3-0 lead on the night, and a healthy 4-0 aggregate lead.
The Jamaicans would grab a consolation in the 53rd minute, through Demarai Gray, but the US would surge ahead again through the returning Tim Weah in the 56th.
Weah was returning to the team for the first time under coach Mauricio Pochettino after suffering an injury before the Argentine coach famously joined US Soccer.
Still, the Jamaicans weren’t done yet and Gray completed a brace, scoring in the 68th.
The tie ended 5-2 on aggregate.
