Nationwide News understands that two more government senators have resigned from the upper house of parliament.

They are King’s Counsel Ransford Braham and Delroy Williams.

Williams, the deputy mayor of Kingston, and Braham submitted their resignations to Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Governor General Sir Patrick Allen this week.

Their departure comes amid reports that the prime minister is moving to reinvigorate the government caucus in the senate ahead of the new parliamentary year which starts on Thursday, February 13.

It’s understood Williams is leaving the senate to focus on his bid to replace veteran member of parliament, MP, Lester ‘Mike’ Henry, as the Jamaica Labour Party’s standard-bearer in Central Clarendon for the next general election.

There are now four vacancies on the government benches in the senate, which the prime minister is reportedly well on his way to filling.

In 2024, the current MP for North East St. Ann, Matthew Samuda, resigned from the senate to enter representational politics.

Former chief executive of GraceKennedy, Don Wehby, resigned from the upper house to focus on his recovery from illness.

The constitution allows the government to have 13 senators in the upper house. The opposition is allowed eight.
