Legendary track and field coach Stephen Francis is of the view that Jamaica’s attempts at qualifying for the men’s 4x400m relay at the Paris Olympic Games was bound to fail because the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association, JAAA, took advice from the wrong person.

Francis says he personally told JAAA president Garth Gayle a few days before the National Championship that the approach they were taking towards qualifying a team would not work.

Jamaica failed in it’s final attempt at qualifying for the relays despite having three teams in a specially arranged race at the national championships with none of them running the 2:59.11 required to qualify for Paris.

Francis says instead of consulting with himself, Maurice Wilson and Glen Mills, the JAAA’s took advice from head of the Excelsior High School track and field programme David Riley, whom he describes as a “school coach”.

Francis says Riley is incompetent and should not be in a position to make decisions at the senior level.

The MVP head honcho says Riley doesn’t take the time to listen to anyone.

Recently, Riley described Francis as an ass during an interview on Sportsmax. But Francis says Riley cannot challenge his arguments, so he resorts to personal attacks.
