Since the release of his album The Gentleman last year, Jamaican reggae artiste Romain Virgo has been enjoying both the feedback and success it has brought. While continuing to celebrate the album’s impact, he is also gearing up for a much-anticipated international tour. Speaking with The Gleaner in a recent interview, the soulful singer shared his plans for 2025, stating, “The year has started and we are preparing ourselves again to release new music.”
While The Gentleman album remains a significant part of his journey, he is eager to drop more projects.
“We’ve been on the road with the album, and that still has me booked for this year, but we’re preparing to release new music soon—hopefully this month–March,” he said. “We have so much music in the making, songs we created years ago that we know we have to release. We just want to put them out in a way where it doesn’t feel like we’re flooding the market.”
In addition to working on singles, he plans to release another album before the year is out. He made a suggestion about a potential drop in May, but he has not decided on a specific day yet.
“I don’t have a timeline for it really. One a di time dem me did a think roun’ May. I think May is very close, but nothing is impossible because we love to create and we love to write especially in moments when we are feeling music, we are really inspired and that is one of the times for me. Like the end of 2024 has taught me so much you know, that I know I could add to what I already have and make it something great,” he explained.
Fans of Virgo can also anticipate some exciting collaborations. While he kept most details under wraps, he confirmed that he will be recording a song with longtime friend and fellow reggae/dancehall artiste, Christopher Martin.
“There are people I’ve worked with in the past that I’m working with now,” he teased. “I don’t want to give away too much, but there are great people I respect so much, and I’d love to collaborate with them. Hopefully, it all works out.”
Reflecting on his 2024 album, Virgo highlighted an unexpected yet rewarding collaboration with dancehall star Masicka.
“I reached out to Masicka not knowing if it was even possible, and to show you how much of a good person he is, he took the time out to say, ‘Alright, yeah, Romain Virgo, reggae artiste, but mi still ago do a song with him.’ And it turned out to be such a great song,” Romain Virgo said, referring to the Been There Before track.
In April, he will go on a 16-show European tour to take his music on the road. Club locations will be the tour’s main focus, giving fans a closer encounter with the gentleman. With a hint of an exciting set list for his fans throughout the world, he said, “it’s more of a club kind of a tour, It’s going to be great, man.”
Beyond the stage and studio, Romain Virgo has another deep-rooted passion—football. Even though music is still his passion, sports give him a much-needed break and sense of balance.
“Mi feel like people believe seh mi quiet and think seh mi nuh do nutt’n more than music and family,” he said with a laugh. “But I’m a big football fan. I’m a big Liverpool fan.”
Virgo is sure that his favourite team, Liverpool, will win it all this season.
“Liverpool is going to win the English Premier League, Champions League, and the Carabao Cup this year. That’s something I’m really looking forward to,” he said. “Mi will go a mi bed a night time and cry if Liverpool lose. That’s how serious I take football,” he told The Gleaner before laughing.
