Run Julie Run overturns rivals to claim Portmore

RUN JULIE RUN reproduced sparkling exercise form to reverse peculiar performances in two previous races, returning with an almost effortless win in yesterday’s Portmore, a victory which should make her a shoo-in for next month’s 1000 Guineas.

A clear runner-up to INTERESTNTIMESAHEAD in December’s Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, RUN JULIE RUN finished third with blinkers fitted late February on her three-year-old debut.

The grey filly’s next effort, third in the April 13 Thornbird Stakes at seven furlongs, with blinkers removed, was even more disappointing, closing mildly behind BANADURA and COMEHOMETOME after racing one-paced for most of the event.

However, she was all business for the Portmore at seven and a half furlongs, dropping hints at exercise by clocking six furlongs in 1:14.0 last Sunday morning, the best preparation of all her peers.

A confident Reyan Lewis broke the Successful Native-Runaway Julie offspring sharply from post-position 11, which was all she needed, gliding on the lead down the backstretch in unmatchable splits, 23.2, 34.4, 46.3, spinning into 59.4 and 1:12.0.

BANADURA, who had made all to win the Hotline and Thornbird Stakes, raced fifth, failing to get a whiff of the lead as FASTNFURIOUSLINKS tried in vain to chase RUN JULIE RUN, who won unmolested in 1:25.4 at railbirds’ odds of 4-5, heavily touted all of last week.

Youville Pinnock rode two winners to top his peers whereas leader Tevin Foster and Raddesh Roman each visited the green once, COOKIE DAY N NIGHT and BRITTBRIAN EXPRESS, keeping their nine-win difference atop the jockeys’ standings intact ahead of this afternoon’s nine-race card.

Champion Jason DaCosta saddled two winners, led by American IS THAT A FACT, who outbattled course-specialist BOOTYLICIOUS to land the Reggae Trophy at 1000 metres straight.

DaCosta ‘s ROSETTA made all to win the following event with Robert Halledeen, repelling Anthony Nunes’ IMMEASURABLE JOY at six furlongs for a determined win among maiden three-year-old fillies.
