The Jamaica Scorpions made a losing start to their campaign in this season’s Regional Super 50 competition, going down by 24 runs to the Barbados Pride under the Duckworth/Lewis method at the Brian Lara Stadium this afternoon.
The Scorpions were asked to get 223 off 35 overs following a lengthy rain delay but fell 24 runs short after being dismissed for 199.
Odean Smith was the last man out for 45, but he got good support from Jermaine Blackwood 40 and captain John Campbell 26.
Jomel Warrican ended with 4 for 25, Dominic Drakes 3 for 34 and Kemar Smith 2 for 48.
Earlier the Pride sent to bat made 260 for 8 in their 50 overs.
Leniko Boucher led the batting with 73 and Zachary McKaskie 63, they shared in a second wicket stand of 134.
Kyle Mayers 41 and Raymon Reifer 26 also weighed in with crucial contributions against Marquino Mindley 3 for 43 with Brad Barnes and Jeavor Royal weighing with two apiece.
Campbell says the Scorpions didn’t bat well through the power play.
He also commends his bowlers for getting the team back into the game after the Pride took control through McKaski and Boucher.
The Scorpions will next be in action on Friday against champions the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force at the Brian Lara Stadium.
