When the nominations in the 2024 Latin American Music Awards were revealed on Tuesday, Jamaican dancehall artiste Sean Paul’s name was mentioned in two categories.

Sean Paul is nominated in the category Collaboration Crossover of The Year for the song Nina Bonita, a collaboration with Colombian recording artiste Feid. Also nominated in that category are Dientes by J Balvin, Usher, and DJ Khaled; El Merengue by Marshmello and Manuel Turizo; Ojala by The Rudeboyz, Maluma and Adam Levine; and Vocation by Ozuna and David Guetta.

Sean Paul is also nominated in the category Best Crossover Artiste alongside Adam Levine, David Guetta, DJ Khaled, Drake, Marshmello, Rema, and Usher.

In an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Tuesday, Sean Paul was quite upbeat upon receiving news about the nominations.

“It feels amazing to be nominated. Hard work pays off,” he said.

Sean Paul explained how the working relationship with Feid came to fruition.

“The collaboration with Feid came about because I wanted to do some work within the Latin genre. I called a bunch of people and they put out the word and said who waan work wid di don? And two guys came through, Maluma and Feid. Good stuff,” Sean Paul disclosed.

He continued: “Feid is a cool yute, and that’s why it was easy to work with him. He came through, sat there, and wrote his thing, and when he presented it. I said: ‘This is bad!’ I basically told Feid what I wanted it to be like.”

Released in April last year, Nina Bonita spent multiple weeks at #1 on both Billboard’s Latin Airplay and Latin Rhythm Airplay charts.

The official video has racked up more than 55 million views on YouTube.

Nina Bonita was a commercial success, making the charts in Peru, Argentina, Colombia, and Spain. To date, the song has been certified four times Latin Platinum in the US and twice platinum in Spain.

Sean Paul shared that collaborating with Latin artistes has helped his brand.

“The more people I can reach out to is a great thing. There’s a lot of people in the Latin community that check for my work and things like this have really helped,” he said.

As it relates to new music, Sean Paul has quite a lot on the way.

“I have songs with Becky G and one with Jada Kingdom coming up. There’s also whole heap a music from Dutty Rock Productions and people in the camp like Farenheit. I’m also working with this new artiste J Calm; he’s an extremely talented kid.

I produced a song for him and also a remix of one of his songs. I’m very proud to work with this kid,” Sean Paul disclosed.

The 2024 Latin American Music Awards will air April 25 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena via Univision, UniMas and Galavision.

Among the top nominees are Bad Bunny (11 nominations) and Karol G and Shakira (nine nominations). Feid and Peso Pluma lead with 12 nominations each.

The nominations are based on fan interactions across streaming, sales, radio airplay, touring, and social media interaction data provided by Billboard and Luminate during the eligibility period February 11, 2023 to February 24, 2024.
