Jamaica is embroiled in a selection debacle as English-born striker Bailey Cadamarteri has been selected for the Reggae Boyz and England Under-19 in the same international window.
In a press conference yesterday, head coach Heimir Hallgrímsson described Cadamarteri as a player who could capitalise on the absence of Leon Bailey, Shamar Nicholson and Trivante Stewart in the squad.
The 18-year-old striker, who has scored three goals in 19 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday in the English Football League Championship, seemed to have committed his international future with Jamaica when he was included in Hallgrímsson’s squad for the Concacaf Nations League.
However, his name was an inclusion earlier today, when England revealed their squad for a pair of under-19 friendlies.
There has been no official word from the player’s camp, but Cadamarteri posted his selection to England’s Under-19 on his Instagram story, signalling his decision to represent England.
Jamaica will play against the United States of America (USA) on Thursday in the Nations League semi-finals in Texas. England Under-19 will play against Morocco on the same date and then against the USA the following Sunday in Rabat.
