FOR THE seventh year in a row, the pair of Kingston College (KC) and Excelsior High School retained their Corporate Area High School Championships boys’ and girls’ titles after two days of action at the Ashenheim Stadium yesterday.

Heading into the final day leading with 123 points tallied, KC maintained their top spot, racing to a 49.5-point lead to finish on 463.

Jamaica College (JC) finished second with 414.5 points while Calabar was further adrift in third with 301.

In the girls’ standings, Excelsior fought off a strong challenge from Immaculate to defend their title with 351 points.

Immaculate, 336, settled for second, while Wolmer’s Girls, 286.5, rounded off the top three.

The highlight of the day came in the boys’ Class One 200-metre final where Gary Card, who had not entered the 100m event, took home the 200 title in dominant fashion, posting a new meet record of 20.53, just outside his lifetime best of 20.50.

JC were second and third in the event with Omary Robinson, 21.00, and Nathaniel Martin, 21.12.

In the girls’ equivalent, Wolmer’s Abigail Wolfe completed the sprint double clocking a wind-aided 23.91, ahead of Alpha’s Tashay Faulkner, 24.23, and Immaculate’s Shevi-Anne Shim, 24.24.

Natrece East was also a double sprint champion for Wolmer’s, claiming the Class Two title in a meet record 23.65.

JC, in a valiant fight for second overall, saw much success in the relays as they took all but one of the 4x100-metre finals.

The boys from Old Hope Road won the Class Four final in 45.78, edging out KC, 46.46, and Wolmer’s 46.52.

They picked up their second successive win by taking Class Three, stopping the clock at 43.86, ahead of St George’s College (STGC) 44.67, and Excelsior, 46.29.

It was three in a row for the ‘True Blues’ in Class Two as they took gold in 41.46, just ahead of KC, 41.61, and Wolmer’s 42.26.

Excelsior ended JC’s sprint-relay streak, however, claiming the Class One title in 40.35, outdipping KC at the line, 40.38, and JC further back in third, 40.70.

In the girls’ sprint relays, the titles were shared among the top four teams in the standings.

Alpha took the Class Four title in 49.22 ahead of Wolmer’s, 49.94, and Immaculate third in 50.54.

Immaculate would then claim the Class Three title in a time of 47.89, besting Wolmer’s, who were second in 48.40, and Campion, third in 49.05.

The Class Two title went to Wolmer’s as the pair of Natrece East and Tiana Marshall powered them to a meet record 45.75, ahead of Immaculate, 46.92, and Holy Childhood, 47.02.

Excelsior would announce themselves in Class One where they crossed the line first in a meet record of 46.20, leaving Immaculate to settle for second in 47.08, and St Andrew High for Girls, third in 47.58.

In the event’s final races, JC edged KC in the boys’ quarter-mile relay, clocking three minutes, 11.99 (3:11.99) for gold, with KC taking silver in 3:12.50.

Both teams were far superior to the field with third going to Ardenne, who crossed the line in 3:30.88.

For the girls’ quarter-mile relay final, Wolmer’s Girls powered home for gold in 3:44.76, defeating Excelsior, who took second in 3:48.97, and Immaculate, third in 3:49.37.
