LONDON, England (CMC):
Manchester City forward Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw continued her impressive form by dishing out an assist in her team’s 2-0 win over West Ham, which sent them to top of the Women’s Super League (WSL) here yesterday.
With all eyes on their Women’s Champions League group-stage match against Barcelona on Wednesday, manager Gareth Taylor opted not to start Shaw, Vivianne Miedema, and Aoba Fujino at the Joie Stadium.
But one minute after coming on as a substitute in the 70th minute, the Jamaican international set up Mary Fowler at the back post for her to nod in City’s second goal of the match.
Earlier, Lauren Hemp put City in the lead in the 10th minute after racing onto Mary Fowler’s pass before calmly creating space to plant a neat finish low into the left-hand corner.
The 24-year-old, who is nominated for this year’s Ballon d’Or award, became the youngest player in Women’s Super League history to reach 50 goals.
