LONDON, England (CMC):
Reggae Girl Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw has been shortlisted for Manchester City Women’s Player-of-the-Month award following her historic achievement for the north England powerhouses.
The 27-year-old Shaw became the club’s all-time leading goalscorer last month when she overtook Georgia Stanway’s mark of 67.
Shaw scored five goals in total – against Everton at the Joie Stadium, away to Brighton, against rivals Manchester United at the Etihad before blasting in a double against Liverpool at Prenton Park.
Shaw now has 70 career goals for City, which she joined from French side Bordeaux three years ago, and 19 for the season.
“She’s a unique player. Not only does she give us the goals, she's a big focal point,” City manager Gareth Taylor said after Shaw eclipsed Stanway’s mark.
Shaw, City’s Player-of-the-Year for last season, faces stiff competition for the March award, however, midfielder Jess Park scored twice against Manchester United and produced one assist before also scoring in the domination of Liverpool.
Lauren Hemp, meanwhile, banged in three goals and registered one assist, complementing her ability in front of goal with her energy and creativity in midfield.
City are challenging for the Women’s Super League title this season and are currently top of the table on 46 points – three points clear of defending champions Chelsea, having played a game more.
