Jamaica’s Khadija Shaw was today voted Professional Football Association’s Women’s player of the year in England.
The 27 year old Shaw who plays for Manchester City in the Women’s Super League, took City to the verge of title success with 21 goals in 18 games before injury curtailed her season close to the end.
City eventually ended the season in second place on goal difference behind champions Chelsea.
Shaw who was winning her first PFA award, had already been named Women’s Super League Player of the year 2023/24 and was also named player of the year at the Women’s Football Awards.
Shaw says this latest award is a result of the work she’s put in to be the very best.
Shaw says the award is all the more special because it was voted on by her peers.
Shaw ended the season as City’s record breaking all time scorer in the WSL but she says it wasn’t one of her goals at the start of the season.
Khadija Shaw.
It was a double for City as midfielder Phil Foden won the men’s player of the year award, while Chelsea winger Cole Palmer was named young player of the year.
It is the first time since the 2009-10 campaign that both men’s awards have gone to English players.
Wayne Rooney and James Milner won the player and young player of the year prizes respectively for that season.
