UK billionaire and founder of venture capital conglomerate, Virgin Group Limited, Sir Richard Branson, is slated to receive a honorary doctoral degree from the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean, UCC, at its commencement ceremony.
Sir Richard launched Virgin Records in the early 1970s and eventually established the multinational Virgin Group which covers industries such as music; journalism and nonfiction; business and industry; and space exploration.
He will be conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Business and Entrepreneurship.
Sir Richard will join three outstanding Jamaicans receiving honorary doctoral degrees.
UCC says Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett will received an Honorary Doctorate in Hospitality and Tourism Management Award, while Executive Chairman of Sandals Resorts International, Adam Stewart will receive an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration Award.
The institution also says Dr. Patricia V. Smith will be conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Behavioural Sciences Award.
The commencement ceremony slated for Sunday July 28 will be held at the National Arena in Kingston at 10:30 am.
