Jamaican-born dancehall and reggae artist Skarra Mucci is on his way to Australia, ready to lively up stages in Melbourne, Sydney, Byron Bay and at the long-running Island Vibe festival on Stradbroke Island. He will be joined by South Sudan’s Dynamq at the Sydney and Melbourne shows.
Skarra Mucci began singing as a child in church and recorded his first studio session with legendary producer Harry J in Jamaica at the age of nine. Drawing from soul, gospel, and reggae, Skarra Mucci developed a dancehall style that blends toasting, singing and rapping with talent and experience. After growing up on the streets of Kingston, Skarra Mucci migrated to Europe in the late 1990s. There he joined the Swiss band, Ganglords, and recorded the hit “Bonx It”. His lyrical flow and creative style won him the nickname of “Dancehall President” early on in his decades-long career in music. Skarra Mucci has since gone on to perform with various bands, sound systems and DJs, touring the world and sharing stages and studios with many great Jamaican and diaspora artists.
Achieving peak popularity in France, Italy and Mexico, Skarra Mucci has collaborated with French groups Dub Inc, L’Entourloop and the digital rubadub producer, Manudigital. His 2012 album Return of the Raggamuffin won Best Reggae Album in France that year. He has also collaborated with Jamaican legends like Yellowman, and Beenie Man, and the UK dubmaster and Ariwa records founder, Mad Professor. With eight albums to his name so far, some of his best-known songs include Greater than Great, My Sound, Life So Rich, Dreader Than Dread and Movie Star. His most recent album drop was Perfect Timing in 2023, followed by four new singles in 2024: Greedy for Vanity, You Are Everything, Feeling (with Spanish group Kulto Kultibo) and Bomboclaat (with Perfect Giddimani from Jamaica).
Skarra Mucci’s first two live appearances in Australia for 2024 are headline shows in Australia’s two largest cities: Melbourne and Sydney. Skarra Mucci will be joined by special guest Dynamq at both. Dynamq has produced for some heavyweight reggae and dancehall artists, including Busy Signal, Mr. Vegas and Big Mountain. A former refugee from South Sudan, Dynamq is more than a producer and performer, he’s also a committed humanitarian, having working charitably in South Sudan, Haiti, Kenya, and Uganda. He was also one of the first South Sudanese artists to reach over a million views on multiple YouTube videos. His track “Remember Those Days in Nairobi” is the most-played reggae song in East and Central Africa.
Dynamq is also a prominent figure in sound system culture, as a past winner of championships like the Global Sound Clash during Reggae Sunfest and the Sound Clash At Sea on the Welcome to Jamrock Reggae Cruise. He’s rocked stages at the Far East Reggae Cruise, Guinness Sounds of Greatness, Groovin’ In The Park in NYC, Rebel Salute in Jamaica, and Rototom Sunsplash Festival in Spain. You can see Skarra Mucci and Dynamq in Sydney and Melbourne, with a unique lineup of local supports at each show. At Island Vibe Festival, Skarra Mucci will be supported by Jstar (Germany) and a range of top quality Australian and New Zealander dub and reggae performers, including Mista Savona, The Pad Boys, District Dub City, Stay Nice & Tahu Dub. Island Vibe and 420 Sound are also presenting a free mid-week session with Skarra Mucci in Byron Bay.
