The Organisation of American States (OAS) has announced the donation of the artwork “Mosaic – A Woman of Power in an Everyday World” by artist Vaughn Anslyn to its permanent art collection at the OAS Art Museum of the Americas. This significant contribution was made by the Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis, marking a historic moment for the country’s representation in the museum.

The donation was celebrated during a ceremony held at OAS headquarters, where the Permanent Representative of St. Kitts and Nevis, Jacinth Henry-Martin, highlighted that this piece by Vaughn Anslyn is the first work by an artist from St. Kitts and Nevis to enter the permanent collection of the OAS Art Museum. The artwork is a powerful expression of the theme of female empowerment, capturing the strength and resilience of women in everyday life.

She described the work as “a testament to our nation’s artistic spirit and cultural identity,” and “an enduring symbol of the depth and quality of our cultural heritage.”

OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro thanked the Mission of St Kitts and Nevis for the donation, stating that it was “a landmark moment for our institution amid the ongoing efforts of the museum to promote the arts of the Caribbean at the OAS.”

Almagro said the donation follows a similar gesture from St Lucia, and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Anslyn expressed his gratitude for the incorporation of the work into the collection of the museum, stating that “the piece that you see before you came from a deep-rooted sense of urgency, and not only that, but a connection, a deep connection that I share with my mother.

“And so, this is my contribution and my dedication to my mother, and I’m eternally grateful that it ended up in a place like this on permanent display,” he added.

The OAS said the work by Anslyn was selected by “a juried process among more than a dozen entries that were received in response to a call for entries throughout the country.”

The OAS said the artwork will be exhibited at the Caribbean art gallery, organized and presented by the OAS Art Museum of the Americas, in the Delegates Lounge of the OAS Main Building in Washington.
