Olympic champions, Roje Stona and Julien Alfred, headline a list of nominees for the Caribbean male and female athletes of the year at the Inaugural CANOC Sports Awards.
The awards are set to honour the Caribbean’s finest athletes, teams, and sports leaders in Turks and Caicos Islands, on October 19.
This prestigious event will celebrate the region’s sporting excellence, with a special focus on sustainability through the IOC Sustainability Awards.
In the men’s category, Stona, the Olympic champion and record holder, is joined by Kyron McMaster of the US Virgin Islands, Grenada’s Lindon Victor, Jereem Richards of Trinidad and Tobago and Sebastian Rivera of Puerto Rico.
On the women’s side, Alfred, the Olympic 100-metres champion and 200-metres silver medallist, will go up against Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico, Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic, Shafiqua Maloney of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Jamaica’s Shanieka Ricketts.
There will also be awards for the Caribbean male and female teams of the year and breakthrough athlete of the year.
