Rojé Stona has won gold in the men’s discus at the Olympics in Paris.

Stona, the former St. Jago High School standout, set a new Olympic Record of 70 metres beating the previous mark of 69.89m set in 2004 by Lithuania’s Virgilijus Alekna.

It is an historic feat for Stona, who also won Jamaica’s first ever gold in a field event at the Olympics.

Jamaica now has five medals at the Paris Games, with Stona’s winning throw landing the country’s first gold of the competition.

Kishane Thompson won silver in the men’s 100 metres, while Shanieka Ricketts won silver in the women’s triple jump.

Meanwhile, Wayne Pinnock won silver in the men’s long jump while Rajindra Campbell won silver in the men’s shot put.
