Stona Says Olympic Gold is the Biggest Moment of His Career

Jamaica’s Roje Stona produced an Olympic record to win gold in the men’s discus at the Paris Games, on Wednesday.

Stona threw 70-metres to upset world record holder Mykolas Alekna of Lithuania.

Alekna had hoped to follow in his father’s footsteps to become Olympic champion.

21-year-old Alekna was favoured to win, but had to settle for silver with 69.97 and Australia’s Matthew Denny claimed the bronze with 69.31 metres.

Stona described it as the biggest moment of his life.

He thanked his supporters.

In the meantime, president of the Jamaica Olympic Association, Christopher Samuda, has reacted to Stona’s victory.

And National champion Travis Smikle, who finished 10th had high praises for his country man.

Meanwhile, National champion, Jaydon Hibbert advanced to the final of the men’s triple jump with a best effort of 16.99 metres.

2022 World Under-20 champion, Roshawn Clarke will be Jamaica’s only representative in the men’s 400-metres hurdles final.

Clarke finished second in semi-final-3 in 48.34 seconds.

And Jamaica will have three men in the final of the 110-metres hurdles.

Defending champion, Hansle Parchment booked his ticket after finishing third in 13.19 seconds in semi-final-1.

Parchment is expecting a tough final.

National champion Rasheed Broadbell secured his lane after winning semi-final-2 in 13.21 seconds.

And Orlando Bennett posted 13.09 seconds to win semi-final-3.
