Operators and promoters of Horse Racing at Caymanas Park Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited SVREL, are calling for an urgent industry-wide review of stewarding standards.
This follows the disruption of the Heroes Day programme at Caymanas Park on Monday.
SVREL says the review should include implementation of mandatory certification prgrams, regular assessment and retraining requirement, clear accountability framework, transparent decision-making processes and independent appeals mechanism.
There was an abandonment of Monday’s meet by the Jamaica Racing Commission, when the behaviour of a number of punters caused the event to descend into chaos.
The incident resulted in revenue losses exceeding 70-million dollars, affecting everyone within the horse racing ecosystem including owners, trainers, jockeys and grooms.
