A senior member of the Jamaica Labour Party, King’s Counsel Tom Tavares-Finson, says former Prime Minister PJ Patterson should apologise to Jamaicans for the hurt caused by the FINSAC era under his leadership.

Tavares-Finson made the comments in a statement to the media on Friday afternoon, as he hit back at Patterson, who has chided the government over its handling of the multi-billion dollar fraud at Stocks and Securities Limited, SSL.

Shaloy Smikle has more in this report.

At the forum dubbed ‘Setting the Record Straight’, former Prime Minister, PJ Patterson, criticised the current government, saying the Holness administration appeared surprised about public interest in the Stocks and Securities Limited, SSL.

He also suggested that among Usain Bolt’s options is to sue the Financial Services Commission, FSC, given that he is among investors at SSL who were defrauded.

But King’s Counsel Tom Tavares-Finson is taking Mr. Patterson to task for what he says is a framing of the SSL issue that is misleading.

He says Mr. Patterson missed an opportunity to tell Jamaicans sorry for the policies of his administration, which hurt thousands.

Mr. Tavares-Finson is describing Mr. Patterson’s stance as inappropriate.
