Jamaican sprint hurdlers Yanique Thompson and Britany Anderson finished one-two in the 100-metre hurdles at the ISTAF World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet in Berlin, Germany, yesterday.
Thompson, the Commonwealth Games bronze medallist in 2018, won in 12.73 seconds while Anderson, the 2022 World Championships silver medallist, who is returning from injury, was second in 12.89.
There were top-three finishes for three other Jamaican athletes. Zandrion Barnes was second in the men’s 400m in 45.47 seconds. The event was won in 45.04 by Germany’s Jean Paul Bredau.
Omar McLeod, who was third at last Friday’s Wanda Diamond League meet in Rome, finished in the same position at yesterday’s meet in 13.28. Paris Olympic Games champion Grant Holloway of the United States was first in 13.14, with Japan’s Rachid Murutake taking second in 13.21.
Danniel Thomas Dodd was also third in the women’s shot put with a best of 18.35 metres. Jessica Schilder of the Netherlands won the event with a throw of 19.70m.
At a World Athletics Challenger meet last Saturday in Białysto, Poland, Shashalee Forbes won the women’s 100m in 11.21 seconds. Egypt’s Basant Hemida was second in 11.50, and Estonia’s Oilme Voro placed third in 11.61.
Last Friday in Dresden, Germany, former national champion Demish Gaye captured the 400m in 45.77 seconds at another Challenger meet. Great Britain’s Efekemo Okoro was second in 46.01. At the same meet, Barnes was third in the 100m in 10.08. The race was won in 10.01 by Canada’s Jerome Blake.
