BALTIMORE, Maryland:

Titchfield High’s Chauvana Grant, on her first overseas trip, will be one of the Jamaicans competing at today’s East Coast International Showcase in Baltimore, Maryland. Grant will compete in the 100 metres and 4x100m for her school.

Grant played a major role in her school getting 15 points at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships (Champs) after contributing 11 of those points. She was third in the Class One 200m in 24.46 seconds and fourth in the 100m in 11.59, the same time awarded to Mickaylay Gardener of Wolmer’s Girls.

The 18-year-old told The Gleaner yesterday that she is feeling a great deal of excitement about competing overseas for the first time.

“For me the moment is surreal, knowing that it is the first time I am travelling out of Jamaica to compete and I am really excited about the occasion,” she shared.

“I didn’t know until after Champs that I was going to compete overseas and when I got the news, I could not contain my joy knowing that it was the first time I was going on an aeroplane to travel to a new country,” Grant said.

She will be in a very strong 100m field but she is ready to face her rivals.

“I know it will be a very strong lineup in my event, but I am ready to give of my best and I am very confident. I have been preparing very well for this and I trust the work of my coach,” Grant said.
