Financial analyst and chartered accountant, Dennis Chung, says the ‘V-shaped’ recovery that Jamaica is now experiencing, is proof of the resilience of the economy.

In a V-shaped recovery an economy that has suffered a sharp economic decline experiences a fast and strong rebound.

Chung was reacting to the disclosure from finance minister, Fayval Williams, of preliminary information that Jamaica’s economy grew in the first quarter of 2025 by between 0.1 and 1 per cent.

This, following a contraction in the economy in the last two quarters of 2024.

The fourth quarter of 2024 saw the economy decline by 0.8 per cent. The Planning Institute of Jamaica, PIOJ, had projected a decline of 1.8 per cent.

Meanwhile, chairman of the Economic Committee of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, Keith Collister, says the growth in the first quarter was a result of efforts made last year to boost the recovery from several adverse weather events.
