Member of Parliament for West Portland, Daryl Vaz, says his wife, Ann-Marie, will continue to serve as the Member of Parliament for East Portland following the impending general election.
The People’s National Party, PNP, recently named attorney-at-law Isat Buchanan as the party’s standard bearer for the constituency.
However, Mr. Vaz is confident that regardless of the PNP’s choice, his wife will again secure victory.
Ann-Marie Vaz previously won the seat in a 2019 by-election, defeating the PNP’s Damion Crawford by over 300 votes. Her win broke the PNP’s 30-year hold on the East Portland constituency.
While extending well wishes to Buchanan, Mr. Vaz adds that he doubts the people of Portland will support him, citing his controversial past.
Meanwhile, Mr. Vaz has announced that the next general election, constitutionally due in 2025, will be his final one.
